When A Child Cries.

I recently learned that the the money people spend on pets would be enough to end world hunger. This disturbs me quite a bit. It makes me wonder if PETA is standing for the right thing. They want to help pets while there are children starving. PETA is a great organization, but can we have one as effective for our people? It hurts me that the human race is so selfish. I admit, I am a part of this race, as we all are. But people can save the world if we just HELP.

There are children in the world who have everything they need, and don't even know what it feels like to be hungry. While there are also children being raped, and living on the streets in unsafe and unhealthy environments. I'm not only talking about third world countries, this happens in our own back yard. In our own United States.

A lesson on humans I learned: they like to ignore things to make it go away. It seems we assume someone else is always there to clean up a mess. If everyone thinks this way, nothing will ever get done.

I just want to know where our ethics are. Where the help is going. Why the world is still the way it is. There are children who are crying for help. It is only up to us to take the courage not just to hear it, but to listen.

Music

Music is universal. It plays in your car, grocery store, elevator, gas station, restaurants, even public restrooms! My problem is, music today rarely has meaning. People used to write about how THEY felt. How THEIR lives were going. Now people talk about what they think other people want to hear. It has become the greediest money market ever.

Being me, music is my only escape from a world of hate. It has been that way since I was a child. I love old music, but it bothers me that I can't turn on the radio and hear something meaningful anymore. My take on artists today is, please be aware of who your fans are. Most of the music being heard today is listened to by our youth. The same youth who will grow up and run this world. Do we really want to teach them that all we need is money, sex, cars, and clothes? I wouldn't want (future) children of mine learning "I want to ride your disco stick" or "I wish I could f**k every girl in the world." Why not teach them the positive things in life? Big ups to the artists who want to make a change (Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Michael Jackson). We need more people like you.

In part, parents should monitor what their children are listening do. It is harder to do these days because the youth is more independent than ever. They have things like the internet and television that show inappropriate behaviors. But parents, it's your job. Please do it.

Music is a beautiful thing. But it can also be used as a weapon. So writers, aim your pens wisely.

Stuck

This world. This cold world. Many people, including me, are feeling the wrath of this "recession." The common question of these victims (college students, single parents, kids who get kicked out at 18, and people who are just broke) : How does the world expect me to live? The answer: IT DOESN'T.

Jobs are rarely available. And if you are like me, TIME is rarely available. But this is still no excuse for not being able to live. Use your creativity. Find a way. Find something you are good at and stress that talent. Make it something you can benefit off of. You will be amazed at how many people would be interested in you. You just have to be interested in yourself. I try to stay away from the word "can't," so I'm here to say, DON'T give up. DON'T give in. If you do, you will only fall in to the desperate traps of life. Please people, don't resort to violence, taking what is not yours, or selling drugs. Believe me, I've been to those places, and they will only lead you down a long dark path.

Life is but an obstacle. If you don't work toward finishing it, you will forever be stuck in the same spot you are in today. What does that leave you? Behind in the race. While you took the time to sit and sulk about how you "can't" do things, the next guy is at the end of the course ringing the bell. Learn to love yourselves. Take care of yourselves. If you don't, you will not find the rewarding things in life.
